Innovation requires agility. For tech startups and fast-moving businesses, the ability to adapt their teams to changing needs is critical. Unfortunately, across Europe, outdated and burdensome labor laws often make this process slow, expensive, and complex, creating significant barriers to growth and innovation.
Take Spain, for example: employees only need to provide a 15-day notice when leaving, but employers must endure a lengthy legal process and pay high severance to let employees go. In Portugal, similar challenges exist. Elsewhere in the EU, companies face comparable obstacles when trying to adjust their teams to meet evolving business needs.
If we want Europe to compete globally, we need to address this imbalance. Simplifying labor laws to create a fairer, more flexible system will enable startups to focus on what they do bestโinnovating, growing, and creating opportunities.
