Most of the money allocated by politicians via funds is squandered and brings no value whatsoever. In Central/Eastern Europe it actually lines the pockets of corrupt officials who use it to strengthen their grip on power.

    Yes, it keeps companies alive that should not exist.

    But maybe do this once there is a functional pan-european capital market to replace it with so the few legit companies that start this way don’t get blocked.

      That’s actually a good point. Maybe a nice use for the funds would be risk capital to promising start-ups. But the incentive structure will still be flawed: there’s no skin in the game for the allocators as it’s tax payer money.
