Hardware, hardware, hardware eating AI

EU chips act? ESMC, an old node, 16nm (12 is still 16nm mostly) is now going to be built with TSMC in Germany. 50% subsidies, great. Unfortunately, this is not yet built and is already outdated. CN will quickly eat up all older nodes via the fabs they buy and ship the older equipment over there. Also the energy issue was this week top news in Norway that wants to cut of export to Europe (Germany) because the prices skyrocket due to the self-inflicted stupidity of German energy policy. When Taiwan will be reunited, the 2nm, 3nm upto 7nm nodes could be lost to the West. And it will atke a few years but they tehmelves will catch up with TSMC because they recruit there and have enough assets in ASML (more names but this will suffice for now). Both Intel and Samsung have big issues in the smaller nodes (yield issues). And we have nothing in the EU of this capability. The cope is that we will shine in old nodes, but the AI war is winner takes all, the crazy part of the exponential curve is going to kick in when AI advances itself. And you need the hardware to do so. Thus the cutting edge technology nodes. In the EU we are all alseep at the wheel (and broke), nobody sees this issue, we are all happy with a dead cat bounce like the ESMC. Horizon is going to do research funding which means that if there is research we cannot profit from it because we don’t have the cutting edge companies to profit from it. And the usual well connected old zombie companies will fund their normal development with research money (see also Audi Brussels in Belgium, a major story that never went viral). If we would just distribute the 200bn to all sme’s we could get 9500 EUR each. If we could just limit ourselves to tech sme’s, we could actually distribute the money and get meaningful help. With Devin (AI sw engineer) we could actually scale very fast. This would plant seeds and not pour money into the abyss of yesterday’s failed dinosaurs. Back to ESMC, short term we will see benefit but 5-10 years, it will trun out a big fiasco. Same as Horizon, how long have they been at it and failed to create a google, nvidia, meta, apple, amazon, …? If you don’t have the hardware to run the cutting edge training and inference, you will be toast. And you have no leverage to get it (ex. Nvidia).
