Disregard for the people’s interests looks back a long tradition in the European bureaucracy. One recent and egregious example can be found at https://de.wickepedia.org: Germany tries to hide numerous negligent homicides by officials in the public health insurance system. This relates to the mishandling of am estimated million claims by state-employed doctors practicing without a license for many years due to a lack of supervision. When this issue was hit upon during litigation against Germany’s largest health insurer the judge followed a political desire to quickly bury the matter, hid her own fact findings, and nearly killed the plaintiff. Chief Justice Stephan Harbarth did not recuse himself from the case because the perpetrator is the wife of a close business associate. Prosecutors became aware of the matter but are pretending to not have look at the court files.
When serious crimes against the lives of citizens such as these go unpunished, this is symptomatic for a much larger issue.
The public service in much of Europe exists in the shape of a superior caste: better paid than the general public, no risk of termination, immune to prosecution or even just criticism. One absurd privilege: German public servants receive private health care paid for by the state, whereas almost the entire population is forced into public health.
A situation of privilege leads to bad behavior and a culture of disregard for the interests of ordinary citizens, including those of founders.
To make Europe great again, first take power from a terrible bureaucracy holding it hostage.
