The recent Germany-induced energy spike makes it clear Germany should no longer be leading euro energy policy

    • Nuclear power plant in every European city

    • Give all the degrowth net-zero people yoghurt pots on strings to speak to each other and not bother anyone else, normal people should never have to listen to them again

Yes, probably betting on small modular nuclear reactors.

Look at the world map of nuclear plants. Those who don’t have it are the poor continents (where Europe is heading towards).

I think we should have a more comprehensive write-up of this, and not just “Embrace Nuclear”. It’s a great idea, and deserves more effort. What would it look like? What does success look like?

Relying on nuclear Energy is quite dumb vs solar, when looking at the scale. Building a nuclear power plant is not a commodity. It requires years of work and individual planning, as well as millions of parts to be uniquely produced. It’s also a centralized source of energy (SPOF). High skill workers required for expensive maintenance.

Solar is the opposite: a few different parts need to be produced millions of times. (Cheap mass production, fit for economies of scaling!). The grid is decentralized. Also no nuclear waste or risk later. Safe material, cheap to produce and more redundancy.

Nuclear is the by far dumbest source of energy.

Some “greens” think it’s gonna solve CO2 - not realizing the CO2 narrative re: climate change is a hoax start to end.

Use solar, be happy. Nuclear plants go boom, and if you’re an engineer you know that nothing can be made 100% safe. Fukushima was considered extremely safe before it radiated half the pacific ocean and made the entire are a no-go zone.

This is a lie, the radiation affects a much smaller zone and precisely zero deaths have been recorded as a consequence.

This is objectively untrue from a safety perspective. A cursory look at the data shows that the death rates from accidents and air pollution resulting from nuclear is less than all power sources bar solar. However, solar has higher greenhouse gas emissions than solar.

Ultimately, I think that the objective of this whole goal might be misstated. I think what we want is energy abundance. Maybe we can state it ever more specifically and say:

We aim for an energy policy that ensures Europe has more reliable and cheaper than China and the USA, enabling European businesses to remain competitive.

Nuclear is one part of the puzzle, but not the whole thing.

Even Bill Gates has proved it to be safe in his Netflix documentary series, Europe can have his consultant. Moreover, nowadays, we have Radiant which is building household’s electricity generator from nuclear power in a safe way. Europe definitely can learn from Radiant to create independent energy for itself.
