In Spain, you have to pay up to €590 per month to the government just to be self-employed. This is called the “Cuota de Autónomos” (Self-Employment Quota), and you have to pay it from day one, even if your net income is €0. If you don’t pay it, the government will immediately seize your bank accounts.
After paying this quota, they will take over 50% of your net income as personal income tax. Once you’ve paid all of this, you will still have to pay 21% VAT on the things you need to buy just to stay afloat while striving to build a profitable business.
How can there be entrepreneurship in Europe when there is such a high monthly fee just to start a business?
