What about a ladder with bigger steps each time, first prolong for 5, then 10, then 15.
That could mean only the important stuff gets to stay longer but doesnt have to keep defending itself over and over.

I agree but the clock for this should start 9.5 years ago, so everything must be re-evaluated or lose its status. Very important - this prevents current and future bloat of regulations, and it’s the only way the “apparatus” doesn’t take full control.
A system creating regulations simply lives and thrives on more regulations to regulate so it is under a force function to create ever more regulations - this would prevent that, the US needs that too.

But yeah, 7 years seems a better fit. You don’t want regulations change daily, or expire all the time, but you do want them reviewed or expired eventually.
